As a native Midwestern girl one of the things that, over the last few years, I’ve come to adore about being a photographer in Seattle is that I have access to a little bit of everything when it comes to locations to shoot. Like this beautiful beach, which is one of countless stretches of dreamy coastline within a few hours’ drive of the city. All you need to do is hop in the car or walk down the street, and you will quickly discover the diverse magic which Seattle offers.

Another thing that I love is that Seattle has a quite active community of photographers and models who frequently collaborate on creative projects. And that community, as fate would have it, is how Lindsay and I connected for this beautiful shoot! She proposed a session trade between any willing photographers, and we quickly began planning a date for a summer golden hour session where we could create with one another, both behind and in front of the camera. I am so incredibly glad that we met and were able to enjoy such a glorious summer evening playing in the ocean and the translucent shallows of the sinking sun, soaking in the salt air, celebrating life and art with our spouses, and in her case, her darling son.

This shoot was a turning point for me. It was the first point in a long while where I felt that I could create work that I actually wanted to make. Where the results I got where even somewhat close to what I had imagined. So on days when I find myself feeling uninspired as an artist, I still find myself wandering back through these images (and the ones Lindsay took of myself and John) to remind myself to focus on finding inspiration within and using my heart to guide my vision so that I can thoughtfully and honestly do the job which I have chosen, which is to capture the moments that people entrust into my care, and to my lens.
